A bit of early history of the club. Going back two centuries, to the year 1893, Woolwich Arsenal played their first away match in the league on the 9th September. The predecessor to the current Arsenal FC played Notts County in the league and lost by the score of 3-2. Arsenal's goals were scored by Arthur Elliott and Walter Shaw.
