After several rumours that Aaron Ramsey was set to join Manchester United, Arsenal entered the race for his signature and succeeded in securing the signature of the young Welsh midfielder. On the 13th August 2008, Ramsey made his debut for Arsenal when he came on for Theo Walcott in the 84th minute of the match against Twente. The game was played away and was the first leg of the Third Qualifying Round of the 2008/09 UEFA Champions League. Ramsey joined Arsenal from Cardiff City for £4.8 million and then spent loan periods at Nottingham Forest and back at Cardiff City.
Arsenal started their 2011/12 Premier League campaign with a match against Newcastle United. The match against the Magpies, as they are nicknamed, finished with the score of 0-0 which was somewhat disappointing for Arsenal fans. The fans also saw new signing Gervinho being sent off for slapping Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton in the face.
