14th August

Left winer Luis Boa Morte made his last appearance for Arsenal on the 14th August 1999 in a match against Sunderland as a second-half substitute. The match was played at the Stadium of Light. Boa Morte, who started his professional career at Arsenal and played for them between 1997 and 1999 after playing for the Sporting CP youth team, made just 25 league appearances for the club, and was sold to Southampton for the transfer fee of £500000. Later, he would play for seven years for another London club, Fulham FC.



On the 14th August 2005, on a Sunday, Arsenal played Newcastle United and won the match by the score of 2-0. It was the opening match of the 2005/06 season which was the last one played at Highbury Stadium before moving to a newly-built stadium. This was the season where Arsenal players wore redcurrant shirts.
