On the 24th August of 1967, Arsenal midfielder Michael Thomas was born in Lambert. Michael Thomas started his football career as a youth player for the Arsenal youth team between 1982 and 1984. He then signed professional terms in 1984 and played for the club until 1991, spending the 1986 campaign out on loan at Portsmouth. For Arsenal, Michael Thomas appeared in 206 league games, scoring 30 goals. He also earned two England international caps while playing for Arsenal.

The game remembered most by Arsenal fans in which Michael Thomas played was the one against Liverpool in May 1989. He scored the goal against Liverpool which secured the First Division title for Arsenal. That season, Arsenal and Liverpool finished at the top of the table with equal points (76 points) and equal goal difference (+37 goals). Arsenal won the title with a superior Goals For (73 goals).
