On the 7th August of the year 1993, Arsenal were beaten by Manchester United in the 71st edition of the FA Charity Shield. The match was played at Wembley Stadium in front of 66519 fans. Gerald Ashby was the referee of the match. Mark Hughes scored for Manchester United on the 8th minute and Ian Wright equalised for Arsenal on the 40th minute. The game went on to penalties.
Out of the first five penalties taken by each club, Ince, Bruce, Keane and Cantona scored for United while Irwin missed, and Winterburn, Jensen, Campbell and Merson scored for Arsenal, while Wright missed the penalty that would have made Arsenal winners.
