3rd August

On the 3rd August 1999, Arsenal bought French striker Thierry Henry for £10 million from Italian club Juventus. Arsene Wenger had previously managed Thierry Henry when he was coaching AS Monaco. Henry is one of the most successful players in the history of Arsenal, making a name for himself as a world-class striker. He scored 174 goals in 254 games for Arsenal, before moving to Barcelona in 2007 and to New York Red Bulls in 2010. The French striker also netted 51 goals in 123 international caps. Henry experienced racism and is an active spokesperson against racism in football. He was ranked ninth in the world in the list of most commercially marketed footballers. He is one of the biggest acquisitions for Arsene Wenger and helped Arsenal win two Premier League titles, 3 FA Cups and twice the FA Community Shield.
