20th August


Patrick Jennings, known popularly as Pat Jennings, was a goalkeeper who signed for Arsenal from arch-rivals Tottenham in 1977. To make matters worse, Jennings joined Tottenham again when he left Arsenal in 1985. For Tottenham he played a total of 472 league matches between 1964 and 1977, and just 5 matches between 1985 and 1986. For Arsenal, he made 237 appearances in goal. On his debut on the 20th August 1977, Pat Jennings conceded a goal against Ipswich Town and Arsenal lost the match by the score of 1-0.



On the 20th August of 2008, French defender Mikael Silvestre joined Arsenal from Manchester United on a two-year deal. The transfer was concluded 11 days after Silvestre's birthday. While for Manchester United he played 361 matches in all competitions scoring 10 goals, for Arsenal he made 43 appearances and scored 3 goals. He spent 9 seasons at Man Utd and two seasons at Arsenal, before moving on a free transfer to Werder Bremen in 2010.
